Where Does Reiki Come From?

Reiki is a practice that developed in Japan in the 1920s. A man named Mikao Usui first started using and teaching Reiki techniques during this time period. He founded his first clinic in 1922.

The techniques and style of Reiki performed today was further developed by a former student of Usui's named Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. One of Hayashi's patients was an American citizen who brought back Reiki to the United States, eventually becoming a Reiki Master and practitioner herself.

And this is how Reiki came to the West. During her years practicing Reiki, Hawayo Takata, taught others to practice Reiki as well, starting the spread of the philosophy and healing practice throughout the nation.

What Is Reiki?

Reiki itself is an energy healing practice. It involves placing the hands on (or just above) certain places on the body to promote the flow of energy and to promote healing of corresponding body parts and organs. This practice is also sometimes referred to as the "laying of hands" because the hands are the conduits for getting the energy flowing in Reiki healing.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki is based on the idea that there is a universal energy in the world. This energy governs all things, including the human body. Inside and around the body, this energy is referred to as "life force energy." The term aura is also used for the energy emitted by and surrounding the body.

These energy terms all refer to a flowing energy that moves throughout the body, giving it life, health, and vitality. However, the energy can sometimes be impeded or blocked in certain areas of the body which leads to health ailments and other problems. Low life force energy in any aspect of the body leads to problems.

The laying of hands in Reiki promotes an increase in that life force energy. It essentially moves and manipulates the energy in and around the body to promote health and well-being. After a Reiki healing session, most people feel a great deal of relaxation and comfort in their bodies that they did not feel before.

Now that you know more about Reiki and how it works, you can be sure to schedule your first Reiki energy healing session as soon as possible.
